The former proteas captain Abraham Benjamin De Villiers steps down from the Proteas test sides as a captain.Talking with the press he said”The interests of the team must always outweigh the interests of any individual, including me.It was a fantastic honour for me to be asked to captain the Test side but I have missed two series and I am still in doubt for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. Following the squad’s outstanding performances in Australia, it is clearly in the greater interests of the team that Faf du Plessis should be confirmed as the permanent Test captain”ab-de-villiers-2115173

Faf the school mate of ABD will be now captaining the South African sides. De Villiers was out of action since the Caribbean league and was expected to return to the squad to play against Sri Lanka. But, it is now confirmed that to be fully fit from his elbow injury it will take 3-4 weeks. On October he had his left elbow surgery and he was advised to stay on rehabilitation period of 3 months from his surgeon. De Villiers missed the series against Australia  and New Zealand in which FAF captained the sides and lead them to the victory. Faf  was the captain of the proteas sides in 5-0 ODI white wash against Australia and 1-0 test win against New Zealand.
